The Miguel O’ Reilly House Museum welcomes you to our gardenscape. This green space grows many varieties of local plants, herbs, and vegetables known to have thrived in historic Saint Augustine. The Sisters of Saint Joseph have maintained the garden’s authenticity by recreating the 1800’s atmosphere that Father Miguel O’Reilly would have cultivated while teaching in the adjacent house.
You will find lush organic greenery including violets, citrus trees, lavender, mint, olive trees, strawberries, and so much more. To learn more about their everyday uses, please enjoy our interactive garden guide, provided upon your arrival. The garden’s focal point is an 1865 baptismal font, or vessel that once baptized many Saint Augustinians in the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. It remains a timeless symbol of eternal life. We invite visitors to use the garden area for meditation, reflection, and prayer.
