Tours of the Spanish Military Hospital’s Apothecary Gardens are available every day, May 8-12, from 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.
The Spanish Military Hospital Gardens are what make our historic tours so very unique. We show our guests what it was like to enter a hospital in 1740, go through triage, bloodletting, bullet removal, and ancient surgical techniques. But unlike today, where a pharmacy dispenses drugs and pills, our last stop on the tour is of our apothecary where we grow our own healing herbs and poultices from ancient remedies – both European and Native American.
Did you know that rosemary takes the itch out of a mosquito bite? Just rub it on and let the organic healing begin, just as they did in the 18th century.
